A new online outreach programme for young people interested in pursuing university study in the arts and humanities.

This webinar series is an exciting interdisciplinary opportunity to delve into the range of lesser-known arts & humanities courses offered at university, with special focus on courses taught at the University of Cambridge. If you enjoy the arts and humanities and are not sure yet what you would like to study at university - or would like to venture beyond the more mainstream subjects - then this is the programme for you!

The series aims to inspire and enlighten; to open up new avenues of interest for students and spotlight the breadth and depth of arts & humanities degrees. Throughout the series, sessions will concentrate on the theme of identity: Who are we? How do we define identity? Does the concept of identity change much across disciplines, and over time?

Which subjects will I explore in the programme?

  • 9th October: Introduction to the University of Cambridge and super-curricular activities; Modern & Medieval Languages
  • 16th October: Archaeology
  • 23rd October: Linguistics
  • 30th October: Classics
  • 6th November: Asian & Middle Eastern Studies
  • 13th November: Philosophy
  • 20th November: Education
  • 27th November: Applying to competitive universities; conclusion to the series

Each session will spotlight a particular arts & humanities course.

When do these sessions take place?

Sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings, 5-6pm. The first session will be on Wednesday 9th October 2024. The series will end on the 27th November.

While it is not compulsory to attend every session, we encourage you to attend as many sessions as you can, including the sessions on topics you haven鈥檛 come across before. You may discover a new favourite subject!

Who is this programme aimed at?

This online programme is aimed at young students interested in studying an arts or humanities course at a competitive university and who enjoy being stretched and challenged outside the classroom. The programme is free of charge.

The programme is open to all students who are in Year 12 (England/Wales), S5 (Scotland) or Year 13 (Northern Ireland) at a state (non fee-paying) school or college.

In the event that the programme is over-subscribed, students who meet Widening Participation criteria will be prioritised (please visit this page for a full list of criteria).

You do not need to be taking any particular courses in school or college at the moment, but you might consider applying for this programme if you鈥檙e interested in any of the following subjects:

  • English
  • History
  • Modern Languages
  • Philosophy and Ethics
  • Politics
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

The programme will not assume any prior knowledge of the above fields, so don鈥檛 worry if you鈥檙e not taking these courses at the moment.

Please note: students must obtain parental/guardian permission to take part in this programme.
